What's the werd on the Ferd? (Ahem. Thanks Ramblin, don't know how I missed that golden opportunity). I've been DD'ing the new ride and compiling "The List." Where best to go for stock or proper lowering springs, exterior trim, a dash pad, uncracked steering wheel, interior kits, and so on? I also need some weatherstripping & firewall grommets. I've found front floor panels for 2 door cars that may work. I've found Dearborn Classics and a couple of other big outfits that seem to have fairly broad listings, but if my experience with other old stuff is anything to go by, there are probably great sources that fly under the great and powerful Google-dar. Looking toward the future and possible modifications (if I keep it long enough), and as far as mechanical parts interchangeability, what other models can I look to? I won't be taking this apart for restoration, but am looking to make some improvements without breaking the bank or taking the car off the road for any extended period of time. Thanks for any assistance & information you can provide.

FTFY

Weatherstripping and firewall grommets, stray things like that, probably best to source from JC Whitney or similar - and anything too obscure/weird for them to have or a specialty house, it's amazing what you can come up with via specialty suppliers like Grainger- though that's pricey. Lowering springs and similar for a stock '60s Ford setup, I'm not sure where best to get other than CJ Pony, which (self-evidently) is Mustang stuff, but if your Fairlane uses the right diameter spring and a similar rate (as it very well may), Mustang Mustang Mustang. Seriously, anything that will fit a Mustang and also your ride, CJ Pony.

Exterior trim and your steering wheel, I don't have any better ideas than Dearborn Classics or whatever else one scrounges up, sad to say. Steering wheels are just pricey. Interior kits might be on eBay. Mechanical parts in general, it's a question of figuring out which other Ford models share parts if any - in some case it'll be Mustang, in some possibly Maverick, in others, other models.

In addendum: some funny stuff like brake cylinders it's easier to figure out a close equivalent and buy directly from a supplier rather than try to keep to the "original" part. Wilwood is a good example for master cylinders. While we're on the topic of brakes, FYI:

Don't know which you have, but that's a good way to get front discs if you don't have them already.

Also, for the dash cover, you might try LMC. They won't have one specific to Fairlane, but one of the truck ones might be a *very* close match:

Can't believe I missed that, edited! Thanks for the tips. I'm hoping there's a lot of Mustang bits I can use, because Maximum Motorsports is local and a good buddy of mine works there.

Sweet, thanks again. Front discs are definitely on the agenda if I'm ever going to get my wife to drive it. Tilton is nearby as well, so their brake stuff could work too.

As far as Mustang parts go, in my case I could actually use more than I am. Most of the front suspension bits were bought off-the-shelf for Mustang, and the springs/shocks would have been included if I weren't doing something wacky. The floorboards for Mustang aren't a perfect match to Falcon, but they're close enough (particularly including some things I'm doing) that the required tweaks are *way* less than the price difference going with Dearborn classics. If I were redoing with a 9" rear I would absolutely be using Mustang bits. Just don't allow yourself to be painted into a corner parts-wise - I seem to recall there's somebody on eBay doing very cheap door cards for the Falcon, just as an example.

Oh well HAI THERE!

I see we're working with what a 64-66 Fairlane? Love the headlights on these.

Gimme some details and I can help more, Ramblin covered a lot of it. I think you should be able to even grab a rebuilt Mustang II front suspension and slap it on for easy instant upgrade if you're looking into that.

http://www.autopartsobsolete.com/ has some obscure stuff, like a New Old Stock Neutral Safety Switch for the Montego.

Yep, it's a '66. 200ci, 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic. Bone stock except for 3" lowering blocks & air shocks in back, and cut springs in front that have destroyed the front shocks. Manual steering, drum brakes, bench seat that's long since lost its stuffing, stripper interior that I'd like to take from beige to red.

Given that the Fairlane six is only a couple hundred pounds heavier than a Falcon six, my front springs might be perfectly all right for you. I'm not using them. I don't know, though- the stock setup has them preloaded 3 whole inches, which might mean they're *really* soft. OTOH, lower base ride height? Maybe.

I did notice in was low!

Cruise-O-Matic is that a C4 auto? The one in my Montego attached to my 302 V8 is a C4 3-Speed Auto called Merc-O-Matic. (because awesome marketing lol)

If so - it's a badass solid trans.

Are you doing any performance upgrades or just trying to get better appearance inside and fix the suspension?

Yep, a C4. Just turned 100k & shifts perfect.

First things first, I want to get some rust taken care of with new front floors, and I'll sand, seal & primer some surface rust in the drip rails & around the rear wheelwells inside the trunk. Once the front floors are done, I'll do probably do carpets & seats. I'd love to do the interior in red.

Long term, we'll see how long I keep it. I'm kind of a car whore, but I like this thing. I could see a 289 and a T5, a little faster steering, disc brakes, and a rear axle that enables me to make elevens at will. Maybe air suspension from AccuAir, they're local to me and my shop has a really good relationship with them. I really want it to be a turn-key, go anywhere daily driver & family cruiser, which it arguably is now, but it needs some improvements to be dialed.

cool man, when you're down the line looking at engine upgrades, don't forget you can bolt a 289,302, or 351 (either 351, c or w) to a C4 trans.

My dad used to run 11's in a Torino with a 351C matched to a C4. He was a pro drag racer back in the 80s:
